Door lifting device

A device 1 for supporting a door upright for placement and mounting with respect to a door frame comprises a base structure 2, at least one support member 36, 38 for engaging a lower edge of a door supported on the device and at least one stabilising member 28, 30 for engaging a door supported on the device at a location above its lower edge. The stabilising member(s) 28, 30 may be clamps. The base structure has means, which may be castors 10, to enable displacement of the device over an underlying surface. The spacing between the axis of rotation of the castors 10 and the base structure 2 may be varied. Means, which may be a plurality of linked bell cranks 50, 52 jointly linked to a drive mechanism, are provided for raising and lowering the support member or members 36, 38 to vary the spacing between the support member(s) and an underlying surface. The drive mechanism may be a screw jack 58, electric motor or hydraulic actuator. Where more than one support member is provided one support member 36 may be adjustable relative to the other support member(s) 38 to allow a door mounted on the device 1 to be tilted.
