<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus by which the ID of each unit of an object to be controlled can be obtained by each unit and the quantity of wiring can be reduced by serial communication. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus having a plurality of units and a CPU for controlling each operation of the plurality of units, a multiplexer is provided between each of the plurality of units and the CPU.
