PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display medium and an image display device in which spreading out of pixels is reduced in producing image display with simple matrix driving. SOLUTION: The image display medium is constructed by sealing in black particles 18 and white particles 20 between a display substrate and a back substrate. A plurality of linear electrodes 403A1-A3 are formed on the display substrate 14. A plurality of linear electrodes 404B1-B3 are formed on the back substrate 16 in a direction where the electrodes 404B1-B3 perpendicularly intersect the electrodes 403A1-A3. Widths of the backside electrodes 404B1-B3 are smaller than those of the display side electrodes 403A1-A3. When a voltage of -100V is applied to the display side electrode 403A1 and a voltage of +100V is applied to the backside electrode 404B2, particles fly in an oblique direction due to a potential difference generated with respect to adjacent backside electrodes 404B1, B3, however, the electric field is weak because a distance between the backside electrodes is long.
