[Also in Divisions G3, G4 and H2] A device to prevent reverse rotation of a driven gear 20 in a timing or counting mechanism, such as that described in Specification 920,703, comprises an arm 82 pivotally mounted on a shaft 12 of a driving gear 18 and carrying an idler gear 78 which meshes with the driving gear 18 and in the forward direction is maintained out of mesh with the driven gear 20 by friction between the arm 82 and a collar 88 on the shaft 12. On reversal of direction of the gear 20, the arm 82 pivots about the shaft 12 and causes the gear 78 to mesh the gear 20, thereby preventing reverse rotation thereof. The arm 82 has an extension 82a which engages a stop 86 in the non-locking condition. In a modification, an idler gear 90 is mounted on an arm 94 which is pivoted about the shaft 34 of the driven gear 20. The idler meshes with the driven gear 20 and in the forward direction, the arm 94 rests against a stop 96. On reversal of direction of gear 20, the idler gear 90 meshes driving gear 18 also. |
