[Also in Divisions F2 and G3] The fluid flow in a pipe 12 Fig. 1 can be made laminar or turbulent as desired by giving the pipe a porous section 18 which is located within a chamber 14 containing a fluid at a lower or higher pressure than that of the fluid in the pipe. The section 18 may vary in thickness or porosity or may be . shaped like a Venturi. The pipe 12 may have several porous sections 18 in different chambers containing like or different fluids at equal or different pressures. One or more of the chambers 24 may be supplied with a fluid coolant at a pressure greater than that of the fluid in the pipe. In another example, Fig. 3, a fluid switch or amplifier comprising a main jet stream and two receiving passages, 13, 15 has a porous section 18. The main jet normally enters the passage 13 but may be diverted to the passage 15 by a control pulse. The supply of a high pressure fluid to the chamber 14 creates turbulence in the main jet stream and on reduction of the fluid pressure in the chamber 14 the main jet stream reverts to the passage 13.</p>
