PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which a reduced image is obtained without deteriorating an image quality and without requiring long processing time or a complicated arithmetic unit. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is equipped with an imaging device which is provided at a position of an image formation plane and generates an image signal by applying photoelectric conversion to an obtained image, an image storage means for storing the image signal to which photoelectric conversion is applied by the imaging device, a moving means for moving the imaging device within the image formation plane, and a control means for controlling the storage of the image signal by the image storage means and the movement of the imaging device by the moving means. When reducing the number of pixels of the imaging device into 1/m and 1/n horizontally and vertically, the control means controls the moving amount of the imaging device by the moving means to be (m) pixels and (n) pixels horizontally and vertically during image pickup, thins image signals from the imaging device into 1/m and 1/n horizontally and vertically and stores the image signals in the image storage means.
