PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an SO head protecting device in an FDD device, preventing damage to an SO head when an FD is inserted. SOLUTION: An SO head guard 4 whose upper surface is positioned at a level slightly higher than the level of the upper surface of the SO head 8 is provided so as to freely rise and fall on a frame 1, a spring 6 raising the SO head guard 4 at the time of unloading and weaker than a spring for bringing down an FD holder is provided and the SO head guard 4 is disposed so that the tip 5a of a latch lever 5 falling at the time of loading engages with a pressure part 4b positioned eccentrically to a rotation center 4a of the SO head guard 4.
