PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absence responding apparatus for solving a problem of prior arts that an automatic telephone message recording function for responding only to a caller about the absence of an objective person cannot achieve the purpose resulting in causing wasteful time and labor because there are many cases that the caller desires to make a speech with other people currently present depending on business contents even when an objective person is absent although a telephone set for automatically making an absence notice is disclosed in order to reduce problems of office noise due to ringing of phone bells and the number of absence replies to phone calls addressed to absence people. SOLUTION: The absence responding apparatus includes: a discrimination means for discriminating absence of a called party when receiving a call signal from a caller; an absence responding means for responding absence to the caller when the discrimination means discriminates the absence; a check means for checking whether a prescribed connection condition is satisfied after the end of absence response; and a means for informing of the arrival of the call when the check means discriminates that the prescribed connection condition is satisfied.
