PURPOSE: To evenly polish the compound curved surface of a body to be polished by providing a rubber hollow cylindrical body, which is elastically deformed for expansion so that the outer diameter thereof is gradually increased from both ends toward a central part in the axial direction thereof and that the maximum outer diameter is formed at the central part in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION: Air is supplied from an air supplying tube 5 so as to always maintain the constant internal pressure. A rubber hollow cylindrical body 4 is expanded so that the outer diameter thereof is gradually increased from both ends toward a central part in the axial direction thereof and that the maximum outer diameter is formed at the central part in the axial direction. The rubber hollow cylindrical body 4, which is made to pressure-contact with a body to be polished on a rotating table 8, is most easily deformed at the central part thereof in the axial direction, and elastically deformed so as to be easily fitted to the compound curved surface of the body to be polished. When the rubber hollow cylindrical body is elastically deformed, since the internal pressure is evenly applied to each part inside of the rubber hollow cylindrical body 4, even polishing pressure is applied to the whole of the compound curved surface of the body to be polished. |
