PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aromatic aldehyde compound by oxidizing the corresponding benzyl alcohol compound or the benzyl ether compound. SOLUTION: The method for producing the aromatic aldehyde represented by formula (3) (wherein, R' denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a phenyl group or the like which may have a substituent; and n denotes an integer of 1-6) comprises reacting a benzyl compound represented by formula (1) [wherein, R denotes a hydrogen atom or the like; and R' and n denote each the same meaning as in formula (3)] with a bromine oxide represented by formula (2) (wherein, M denotes a hydrogen atom or a metal atom; and m denotes an integer of 1-3) in the presence of an acidic catalyst.
