<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image compressing method and an image compressing apparatus for differentially encoding a digital image signals, based on the JPEG format. <P>SOLUTION: The differential image processing method includes a process for converting an RGB image signal to brightness and color difference data; a process for obtaining the difference value between pixels by comparing the pixels of the converted color difference data to determine a representative pixel value, according to the difference value between the pixels with tolerance as a reference; and a process for encoding the representative pixel values, thus applying discrete cosine conversion only to a part that differs from the background color and hence enhancing the compression ratio of the data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
