The invention relates to an additive for improving the machinability of iron - based powder compositions. The additive contains calcium fluoride particles which are included in an amount of 0.1-0.6 % by weight in the powder composition. The invention further relates to powder compositions containing the additives indicated, a s well as sintered products produced from the powder compositions.
