<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and inexpensively recovering germanium from scrap of an electronics material, such as a used sputtering target material containing small amounts of germanium or machining chips, odds and ends, etc., of the sputtering target material or from other scraps used as a working material for a catalyst, a thermocouple, a resistance thermometer, etc. <P>SOLUTION: The germanium-containing scrap is dissolved by means of a mixed acid containing hydrochloric acid. The resultant dissolved scrap is evaporated and is collected and recovered as germanium chloride in pure water.
