PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low profile surface mount coil component, and its manufacturing method, in which connecting work of a flat winding and an electrode is facilitated. SOLUTION: The surface mount coil component 10 comprises a drum core 12 applied with a winding 11, an outer core 14 surrounding the drum core, and a pair of electrodes 25 and 26 fixed to the outer core. The outer core 14 consists of a plurality of core components 15 and 16 and gap parts 21 and 22 are formed between respective core components 15 and 16. Ends 11a and 11b of the flat winding are led out from the gap part and connected with the electrodes 25 and 26. Since the winding does not detour the upper side of the outer core, the profile can be reduced by the thickness of the winding 11. Furthermore, the work for connecting the winding and the electrode can be facilitated because the winding is not required to be folded at the shoulder of the outer core. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
