[Also in Division C3] A hot melt adhesive for uniting shoe uppers to shoe soles is a polyurethane obtained by reacting a diisocyanate with a polyester obtained by reacting (a) an epoxy compound of formula where R is a C 1-26 alkyl group and (b) certain dicarboxylic acids (see Division C3). In examples the polyurethane is heated to 150‹-160‹C. to melt it and applied to the edges of a synthetic rubber sole - the sole is then placed on a matching prewarmed leather upper and the unit clamped at a ,pressure of 60-80 p.s.i. for 20-30 seconds. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,001,293.
