A mouse device capable of functioning as a smart card and having a card reader for reading an inserted smart card. In the mouse device, a card input portion is formed in a predetermined position of the mouse device, for receiving a smart card. The card reader detects the presence or absence of the smart card in the card input portion, reading card information from the smart card, and outputting a detection signal and the card information. A memory stores card information including user authentication information as set in a typical smart card, a chip operating system (COS), and a dongle system serving as a hardware protection key. A controller transmits the card information received from the card reader to an external computer terminal, or transmits the card information stored in the memory to the external computer terminal according to a predetermined operation mode. |
