PURPOSE: A back light unit using flat lamp is provided to lower a discharge starting voltage and control a plasma discharge area by widening widths of electrodes, thereby improving the uniformity of brightness, and improve the durability of a lamp. CONSTITUTION: A flat lamp(20) is formed of a rear substrate(21), a transparent front substrate(22) separated from the rear substrate, a plurality of partition walls(24) defining discharging spaces, a fluorescent substance layer(25) applied following surfaces of the defined discharging spaces, and a plurality of electrodes(26) generating dielectric substance wall discharge. A light diffuser part(31) is installed separate from the front substrate of the flat lamp for diffusing light emitted from the flat lamp. An insulation reflective layer(32) is installed on the electrodes of the rear substrate of the flat lamp by the medium of an adhesive layer(32a). A base member(33) is installed under the insulation reflective layer by the medium of another adhesive layer(32b).
