A waste water treatment assembly has an upright rectangular pipe frame at the top and bottom of which are a number of parallel transverse rods linked by panels of non-perishable monofilament thread. The threads hold lines of plastic beads which act as the substrate for colonies of micro-organisms. In an alternative embodiment the panels consist of woven fabric, strips of material or cord incorporating a catalytic substance. Textile panels further incorporate projecting fibre loops which increase the surface area for micro-organism settlement. The water pipes (1-4) are closed at their base and incorporate radial outlets, or are linked to a discharge hose with radial outlets. The pipe and/or hose further has an inlet fitting for a liquid or gaseous additive.
