DISPERSION COMPENSATING UNIT AND OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersion compensating unit capable of compensating both wavelength dispersion of a non-zero dispersion shifted optical fiber and dispersion slope.

SOLUTION: In this dispersion compensating unit 10, a first optical fiber 110 and a second optical fiber 120 are each wound in a coil shape and housed in a housing 130. The first optical fiber 110 has negative wavelength dispersion D1and a negative dispersion slope S1in a use wavelength. The second optical fiber 120 has positive wavelength dispersion D2and a positive dispersion slope S2in a use wavelength.
