摘要 This is an axially-aligned opposed piston engine design comprising of counter-opposed pistons that are axially aligned with each other both housed in axially aligned cylinders also opposed to each other. One piston is connected to the crankshaft assembly by a single connecting rod while its opposing piston pair is connected to the crankshaft assembly via a fork-like two-rod connecting mechanism. Both connecting rods have the same weights. The exact axial alignment, equal weights and torques of the two opposing pistons negate each other's motion for a vibration free operation, except for some twitches with rotation velocity changes. With the moments of forces exactly opposite of each other, the torque exerted by each piston is almost zero at the crankshaft axis, thus, the torque present at the crankshaft journals may almost be nil. This torque may reach to almost a ton on a typical engine's crankshaft, which in this design are delivered as useful force. Friction issues at the crankshaft journals are also drastically reduced. With the counter-opposed design, weight balancing elements are not used, further increasing the efficiency of torque usage. The crankshaft assembly segment is a (4) disk assembly, either built-up or of mono-block, machined construction. The application for the design is described for a six-cylinder, three-phase engine.
