1,270,088. Soldering. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. 6 May, 1970 [14 May, 1969], No. 21732/70. Heading B3R. [Also in Division F2] A rod 1 is secured in a bore in an element 4, 10 by soldering. The method comprises (a) depositing on the rod (after protecting an end portion 3) a coating 2 of chromium, (b) introducing a soldering agent into the bore, (c) inserting the end portion 3 and part of the coated portion of the rod into the bore, thus forming an annular gap 5 between the end portion 3 and the surface of the bore, (d) heating the element 4, 10 and the end portion 3 in the presence of the soldering agent to a temperature sufficient to fuse the soldering agent and distribute it in the gap by capillary action, and (e) solidifying the distributed soldering agent. The soldering agent may be introduced into the bore in the form of a ring fitting into chamber 7 before insertion of the rod into the bore, or the unplated rod portion 3 may be dipcoated with solder. Grooves 6 may be provided in the wall of the sleeve 4 to facilitate escape of air from the bore during soldering, and to indicate when heating may be discontinued. |
