PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an image display device thin and to make its illuminance distribution uniform. SOLUTION: The image display device is equipped with a white light source 1, a mirror 2 which forms a secondary light source, a color filter 3, condenser lenses 4A and 4B which a light beam having passed through the color filter 3 passes through, a plane mirror 8 which reflects the light beam having passed through the condenser lenses, a spherical mirror 5 which reflects the light beam having passed through the plane mirror 8, a DMD (digital mirror device 6 that varies the projection angle of the reflected light by varying the tilt of micromirrors of many pixels on which the light beam reflected by the mirror 5 is incident and which are arranged in two dimensions to create ON and OFF states, and a projection lens 7 which enlarges and projects the reflected light from the micromirrors of pixels in the ON state. The plane mirror 8 is arranged on the side of the DMD 6 and the spherical mirror 5 is arranged on the side of the projection lens 7; and light beams which tilt to the center axis of the projection lens 7 and the center axes of the condenser lenses 4A and 4B are emitted from the plane mirror 8 to the spherical mirror 5 and from the spherical mirror 5 to the DMD 6 respectively.
