PURPOSE:To change a transmission system and a transmission condition by providing a binary/quarternary conversion section converting 2 strings of PCM signals into 1 string of quarternary PCM signal to the sending side and providing a quarternary/binary conversion section inverting these signals to the reception side. CONSTITUTION:The 2 strings of synchronized PCM signals are inputted to input terminals 3, 4 of the sending side binary/quarternary conversion section 1 and inputted to input terminals 6, 7 of a binary/quarternary conversion circuit 5, where the signals are converted into 1 string of quarternary PCM signal and the result is outputted from an output terminal 8. The quarternary PCM signal inputted to the input terminal 9 of the quarternary/binary conversion section 2 at the reception side is inverted by the quarternary/binary conversion circuit 10, where the signal is converted into 2-string of binary PCM signals and outputted from output terminals 11, 12. The transmission system and the transmission condition of the PCM communication equipment are changed by sending the 2-string of PCM signal as the quarternary PCM signal in inputting the 2-string of PCM signal in one and same equipment and by sending 1-string PCM signal as a binary PCM signal in inputting the PCM signal in this way.
