PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleanser which is used for polymerization kettle and can easily remove polymer scales, and to provide a method for removing the polymer scales with the cleanser. SOLUTION: This cleanser for the polymerization kettle comprises an alkaline solution comprising water, an alcohol and an alkaline compound and having pH 11 or more, wherein the content of the alcohol is≥60 wt.% based on the total amount of the water and the alcohol.
