The prepn. of optically active cyclohex-2-ene-1-one derivs. of formula (I) comprises asymmetric hydrogenation of an enol deriv. of keto-isophorone of formula (II) in the presence of a rhodium complex of an optically active diphosphine ligand. R = lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, Ph, benzyl or N(R1)2. R1 = lower alkyl, Ph, benzyl or H; * = optically active centre.
