摘要 Ion detection system, useful for a high resolution mass spectrometer. Total ion flight-time spectra are generated by combination of individual digital spectra by digitalization of the amplified ion currents obtained at constant sweep rate from the ion detector, and computing the respective ion flight-time and intensity value for each of the peaks from the data sequence obtained for each individual spectrum, by routine procedures, and plotting a histogram of flight-time versus intensity. An Analogue-to-Digital-Converter (ADC) is used for scanning the amplified ion currents, but each individual spectrum is subjected to a peak-finding algorithm to determine mean' flight-time values, from which the flight-time intensity histogram is generated. The mean intensities are then added within the histogram. The intensities are used in the computation, ensuring that the correct isotope distributions are measured. An Independent claim is also included for a transient recorder containing a computing device for executing the peak-finding algorithm in real-time to collect the individual flight-time spectra.
