PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which reduces erroneous operations of an operation lever used for switching a relative position between a heat roller and a pressure roller and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The fixing device has: the heat roller 6 for fusing a toner image on a sheet material, the pressure roller 5 which brings the sheet material, passing between the heat roller 6 and the pressure roller 5, into firm contact with the heat roller 6, and the operation lever 7 which switches the heat roller 6 and pressure roller 5 to the state of being in firm contact with each other from the state of being released from the firm contact. The fixing device 1 is provided with a seal 10 which has thereon information about the operation of the operation lever 1 and is attached to the operation lever 7 so that the seal 10 can be pulled in a direction which is the same as the direction in which the operation lever 7 is operated.
