PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photodetecting device, a photodetecting method, a program and a recording medium, which can accurately carry out a measurement. SOLUTION: The photodetecting device measures the characteristic of brightness of a specific color output by a displaying device under specified illuminating light. A light separating means 60f employed in the photodetecting device separates color components of the specific color from those of the illuminating light. Then, a converting section for displaying device 60g converts the separated color components of the specific color from the LMS into the XYZ by using an operator for displaying device Md. A converting section for illumination 60h converts the separated color components of the illuminating light from the LMS into the XYZ by using an operator for illumination Mi. Thus, the conversion from the RGB to the LMS is carried out by independently using respective operator for displaying device and operator for illumination, and thereby enabling an accurate measurement for the color where the output of the displaying device and the illuminating light are overlapped.
