PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for paper coating giving a paper having further improved ink receptivity and water resistance. SOLUTION: The resin composition is obtained by reacting polyamines, alicyclic polycarboxylic acids, ureas and an alkylating agent, and satisfies the mole number of the ureas/(c)≤0.8 when setting the mole number (c) as obtained by subtracting the mole number (b) of carboxy groups contained in the alicyclic polycarboxylic acids from the total mole number (a) of a primary amine and a secondary amine contained in the polyamines, and (number of moles of ureas)/(number of moles of polyamines)≤1.
