An arrangement for detecting a liquid, comprises an ultrasound transducer located on a container wall . containing a piezoelectric element which produces an ultrasound impulse when excited. The impulse is applied to the medium to be monitored via a membrane, and ultrasound oscillations are received. The membrane is located on the wall side exposed to the liquid, and no oscillating elements extend into the medium. The membrane is located on the wall side exposed to the liquid, and no oscillating elements extend into the medium. The membrane is made of metal and is 0.1-50mm thick.
