Tarpaulin (1) is placed along the roof region of a vehicle and has an expanding body (2) or several motor-operated spreading arms supported on the roof beam (3) or on roof arches. Preferred Features: The expanded body is formed as a tubing extending over the whole roof region. An intermediate layer of cloth and/or plastic, foam or felt is arranged between the tarpaulin and the expanded body. The tarpaulin is fixed to the expanded body using strips or belts (14).
