<p>A gas cell for wavelength calibration or measurement comprises an optical fiber (10) containing a gas having at least one absorption line for providing the wavelength calibration or measurement. The gas is preferably provided in a way that a sufficient part of an optical mode field distribution in the fiber (10) is localized within the gas.
