PURPOSE: A repeater of an intermediate frequency method having a power control function and a power control method are provided to enhance degradation of a cell coverage and a speech quality by controlling power between a doner module and each remote module. CONSTITUTION: Tone signals are generated by remote modules(401). The tone signals are transmitted to a doner module through a transmission line(402). The tone signals are detected(403). The tone signals detected by each remote module are read and compared to a reference power level. If the tone signal is smaller than the reference power level, a power control signal is generated to reduce an attenuation ratio of an attenuator provided on a transmission path to the doner module in a corresponding module to a certain level, and in the opposite case, a power control signal is generated to heighten the attenuation ratio(404). The generated power control signal is transmitted to a corresponding remote module(405). The transmitted power control signal is detected(406). The detected power control signal is read, according to which the attenuation ratio of the attenuator is adjusted(407).
