PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device that can photograph a desired number of pictures by taking precedence of either of an image size and a compression rate over the other even when the capacity of a recording means is small. SOLUTION: The image pickup device detects the capacity of a loaded recording memory card, a user enters a desirable photographing number of pictures within the capacity of the memory card and then sets a precedence mode as to which of the compression rate or the image size is given priority. When the user sets the compression rate as the precedence mode, the user enters a desired compression rate, the image pickup device calculates the image size on the basis of the card capacity, the number of photographing pictures set by the user, and the compression rate. When the user sets the image size as the precedence mode, the user enters a desirable image size, the image pickup device calculates the compression rate on the basis of the card capacity, the number of photographing pictures set by the user and the image size and records the photographing pictures of the desired number. |
