PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily cultivating lotus roots at ordinary homes. SOLUTION: The method for cultivating lotus roots comprises the following processes: putting clayey soil 8 in a pot up to about 20 cm depth, planting seed lotus 9 in the clayey soil 8, filling the pot with water throughout an entire period from the planting time to the harvest time, and keeping the temperature of the clayey soil at 15 deg.C-30 deg.C for at least 6 months. By this method, lotus roots each having 4 shorty sections are obtained because of using the clayey soil instead of using mixed soil with coarse fragments or clods of earth, which results in obtaining ill-shaped lotus roots.
