The invention relates to an optical viewing device, particularly a (stereo-) operation microscope, comprising an additional diaphragm (4) in a main beam path (2b) arranged between an outwardly reflecting beam divider (3) and a viewer eye-piece (5) for connecting or disconnecting the viewer (8b) without affecting the reflected signal. The invention also relates to a further development which is a special diaphragm construction enabling both main beam paths (2a, 2b) to be connected or disconnected and which also includes an override-function (quick-reset) for releasing both beam paths.
