A universal trip for photography, hunting gun support etc. has the legs hinged under a support console (12) which also supports a central height adjusting strut and the mounting platform (74). Each leg is hinged inside a recess and is braced into the splayed position by an individual spring (26) set between screw supports in the console and on the leg. A pull cord system (10) enables the user to pull the tripod into the transport position single handed.
