The device includes an external control unit (2) for outputting operation command to a host computer (1). An activation unit (3) is connected to the host computer and the external control unit, and receives a key element (4) for activation, in order to set the user time. The host computer enters a time mode when the key element is removed from the activation unit, and the host computer is automatically switched off when the current user time has exceeded an allowed user time.
