The clocking method uses a clock generation device (100) for delivery of a variable output clock signal (102) supplied to the clocked circuit (101) by entering a preset count value (104) in a memory (105) via an input unit (110) and entry of a multiplication value (106) and a central count value (107) provided by a central counter (108) in the memory, for provision of an output count value (109) and read-out of the output clock signal via an output unit (116).
