Production of a material library of surface regions having different properties involves applying mixtures of at least two suspensions according to a combinatory process on a substrate, to form a combinatory system. Preferred Features: A powdered precursor is used to form the suspensions. The precursor is a metal or semi-metal compound, or a plastic. The suspensions are automatically mixed. The combinatory system is heat-treated at 20-2000 deg C, and subjected to a pressure of 10-20 bar in a protective atmosphere.
