The working medium for the refrigerator is ammonia, and the absorption fluid is water. The expansion machine (1) is situated between an evaporator (3) and an absorber (2) and expands ammonia vapor from 5 bar to 1 bar with a temperature drop of approximately 50 degrees C. 30-40% aqueous ammonia solution passes from the absorber through a pump (5) to a heat exchanger (4) and then to the evaporator. Weak ammonia solution passes from the evaporator through the heat exchanger to the absorber. The expansion machine may drive the pump, and heat may be supplied to the evaporator to drive the refrigeration circuit.
