METHOD FOR PRODUCING HYDROGEN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce hydrogen from methane by utilizing methane decomposition reaction, and further converting a carbon component to be precipitated into hydrogen. SOLUTION: A methan feeding step wherein a methane-containing gas is fed to a catalytic layer consisting of a catalyst for methane decomposition reaction and non-stoichiometric metal oxide, and a water vapor feeding step wherein a water vapor-containing gas is fed are alternately performed. Decomposition reaction is further progressed by reducing non-stoichiometric metal oxide with hydrogen produced by the decomposition of methane, and hydrogen and carbon dioxide are produced by feeding water vapor to the produced carbon to evade the precipitation of carbon. Simultaneously, the reduced non- stoichiometric metal oxide is oxidized with the water vapor to release hydrogen.
