PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolling roll made of a composite material which is excellent in wear resistance, in which brittle fracture is hardly caused and moreover rolling can efficiently applied to a work and a manufacturing method of it. SOLUTION: After forming a powdery mixture of ceramic particles of non- oxidized material and metallic particles, it is made into a compact having a shape in accordance with a shape of the rolling roll (forming stage S1). Next, a boron compound containing solution is applied on the surface of this compact (forming stage S2). After that, the rolling roll made of the composite material is obtained by sintering the compact in a sintering stage S3. Or, a porous body is made by sintering the compact and, next, after impregnateing a catalyst containing solution in the interior of the porous body and after applying the boron compound containing solution on the surface of the porous body, the resintering (densifying) of the porous body may be performed.
