<p>A method (300) of delivering broadcast information to a mobile station (112) in a radio communication system (100) having a plurality of communication cells that are able to serve said mobile station (112) with a communication link. The method includes the steps of receiving a broadcast information trigger (310) caused by the mobile station; and transmitting (324), in response to receiving said trigger (310), broadcast information to the mobile station (112). The invention solves the problem of a mobile station not receiving broadcast information, particularly neighbour cell information, in a reasonable time period, whilst in a call on a cell with hevy traffic load. The invention also optimises the transmission of such broadcast information by detecting when new mobile stations arrive on a cell so that boradcast channel bandwidth is not wasted by periodic transmission of information.</p> |
