PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an illegal copy from being produced and also to make illegally copied data to be turned into invalid data. SOLUTION: A recording/reproducing apparatus is provided with a first storing means for storing data structure information which includes encrypted data, a special information holding means for holding special information associated with the data structure information, and a controlling means for controlling the first storing means and the special information holding means. The data structure information is associated with the special information so that the special information is updated in response to an update of the data structure information, or such that the data structure information is updated in response to an update of the special information. The controlling means controls the movement of the encrypted data from the first storing means to a second storing means, and the controlling means updates the special information so that a mismatch occurs between the special information obtained before the movement from the first storing means to the second storing means and the special information obtained after the movement of the encrypted data from the first storing means to the second storing means.
