PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve problems of an electric power steering system having a variable gear ratio where sometimes a control system controlling drive of an electric motor for generating steering assist force goes down and there is no rigid feeling in steering during linear traveling. SOLUTION: When the system regarding a control part 18 controlling the drive of the electric motor 7 goes down, no current flows in the electric motor 7. When a current detecting sensor 23 does not detect any current, a relay 26 is turned on, and an electromagnetic clutch 14 is connected. Two elements of a planetary gear mechanism 14 are connected so as to integrally rotate, and an input shaft 3 and an output shaft 5 integrally rotate and function as manual steering. In linear traveling, since no current flows in the electric motor 7 also, a state of manual steering is provided in the same way and steering rigidity can be enhanced. |
