PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersant having excellent dispersion characteristics and to provide a high functional and high-performance image forming material suitable for the method and the device for forming images with properties of high picture quality, fast process and energy saving. SOLUTION: The dispersant contains a compound consisting of a liquid crystalline mesogenic group and two side chains coupled to the both ends of the liquid crystal mesogenic group. The two side chains have the skeletal parts independently selected from (OCH2 CH2 )x and (OCH2 CHCH3 )y , wherein each of x and y represents an integer from 3 to 25.
