1,213,332. Elements for thin layer chromatography. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 5 Sept., 1968 [11 Sept., 1967], No. 42328/68. Heading B1X. A sheet element of application in thin layer chromatography comprises a flexible film base coated with a chromatographically active sorbenit, a polymeric binder, and a reinforcing agent which is chemically inert and consists of randomly oriented discrete fibrous particles having an average particle size less than 100Á. Any suitable film base, composed of polymeric material metal foil or paper, may be used, but a polyester film such as polyethylene terephthalate is preferred. Similarly, any suitable sorbent may be employed, but silica gel is preferred. The polymeric binder is also not restricted, but polyacrylic acid sodium polyacrylate and acrylamide are favoured. Particulraly suitable reinforcing agents are microcrystalline magnesium silicate and microcrystalline cellulose The binder and reinforcing agent in the coating respectively amount to 0.02-0.25 and 0.05-0.25 parts per part of sorbent, and the coating has a thickness of 100-500Á. |
