PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus for obtaining a stable images of an image scanner and a digital copy machine, by increasing the accuracy in proper position adjustment of ADF reading from a manuscript image data. SOLUTION: A manuscript is carried through a manuscript carriage means to an image reading unit, and the manuscript is read by the image reading unit in the image reading apparatus. When the manuscript is read, the image take-in range in the scanning direction of the manuscript is made changeable.
