Atmospheric pollution by gas from ovens, furnaces, burners etc. is prevented by incorporating a liquid catalyst in the form of vapour into the combustion air, so that the catalyst penetrates by capillary action in the liquid state into one or more microporous elements contacted by the air before combustion, the air thus entraining vapours of the catalyst in a quantity proportional to the air flow by the effect of surface tension. Gives a very intimate mixture of the combustion air and the catalyst vapours, such as a complex of a transition metal. The quantity of the catalyst in the air can be accurately controlled.
|
